The Mastitis Series: Student Edition is all about, well…mastitis. Dr. Pamela Ruegg’s PhD and Master’s students have teamed up to present their work dealing with the treatment of mastitis.

Dealing Effectively with Contagious Mastitis
Dr. John Penry has 20 years experience as an Australian dairy vet focusing on milk quality and has recently enrolled as a PhD student at UW Madison. Jose Fernando Guarin is a native of Colombia, received a master’s degree in Brazil and is currently enrolled as a PhD student at UW Madison. Both John and Jose are co-supervised by Dr. Doug Reinemann and Dr. Pamela Ruegg, who are professors and extension specialists at UW.
Research-Based Treatment Protocols
Stephanie Metgzer is a UW Madison PhD student who is studying under Drs. Pamela Ruegg and Laura Hernandez. She previously received a master’s degree from Ohio State University. Maria Jose Fuenzalida has a veterinary degree from Chile and is currently completing a master’s degree at UW Madison under the co-supervision of Drs. Pamela Ruegg and Paul Fricke.
When to Treat Mastitis
Aine O’Connell comes from an Irish Dairy farm and is a PhD student studying milk quality at UW Madison. Cecilia Baumberger has a veterinary degree from Argentina and is enrolled in a Master’s degree in milk quality at UW Madison. Both students are supervised by Dr. Pamela Ruegg, a Professor and Extension specialist in the Dairy Science Dept. at UW Madison.
