With increasing focus on milk quality and demand for lower somatic cell counts, it is important that dairy producers have the tools to help reduce mastitis incidence and effectively manage cases.
Milk Secretion and Quality Standards
Dr. Pamela Ruegg, Dairy Science Department, University of Wisconsin-Madison
Widespread consumption of dairy products and well-publicized recent epidemics of animal disease has increased consumer concern about the quality of foods of animal origin. Along with these trends, globalization has influenced the definition of “high-quality” milk. Also, consumer expectations are increasingly affecting animal management practices. This paper discusses the relationship of milk secretion and milk quality so that producers can meet the evolving consumer expectations.
