somatic cell count

This benchmarking tool allows dairy producers to compare their herd’s bulk tank somatic cell counts with other herds around the nation. Using the Project C.O.W. database, results can be based on management type, herd size, milk production, years dairying and time of year.

You may enter data in the ORANGE boxes.

1. Enter your herd’s bulk tank somatic cell count (X 1000). For example, if your herd’s BT SCC is 200,000 enter 200.

IMPORTANT: After you enter YOUR HERD’S BT SCC, click the REFRESH BOX and press ALT+F5. (If you are using a Mac, hold down the fn key as well).

2. Select farm categories to filter the reported average bulk tank somatic cell counts. This is where the fun begins! You can compare your farm to farms of similar size, management type and experience.

NOTE: With certain category combinations, there may be no data recorded. To troubleshoot, select a broader range of criteria.

build the project c.o.w. database

By entering your farm’s information here, the Project C.O.W. database will dynamically grow with new users and allow the SCC Comparison Tool to provide the most up-to-date results.
